Defrag Video Update - FS / Soundtrack
Posted on 3.10.10 @ 12:48 PM by PhoenixFilms

I did some more testing for the hard versions of the runs I have left. There's only 2 left that I need to land but both are extremely difficult. I've been hung up on them and if I don't get extremely lucky they may end up delaying my progress on this movie. After extensive testing I am convinced of the following:

1) They are possible, even if only by pixel-perfect movements.
2) They will make the difference between a good movie and an out-of-this-world movie. [Content-wise]

In the meantime I've been taking a break from attempts at that to finish up my FS content. I've landed a few new tricks and have almost completely exhausted all of my ideas for the context of this project. There is one trick in particular that has become very annoying though. It begins with a series of random OBs. The heights are consistent like any OB but it involves RJing into the roof which yields different random heights every time making more than one of the following OBs very random. I figure I probably hit the final OB where the trick is performed about 1 in 100 attempts. The even more annoying part is that out of my several hours on this trick I should have landed it 3 times but missed the landings.

I've had the soundtrack for this vid picked out for a little while now. Just last night I acquired some super high-quality .FLAC versions of the songs and converted them to .WAV for editing. The vid will consist of 2 songs with a combined length of 10.6 minutes which means the final product will be roughly 11 minutes long.

The first track reminds me of something you would see in one of Negoxe's movies. It's soft, seductive and pulls you into it but also has some hard-hitting elements to sync to. It's the longer song and the entire runs section will be set to it. Based on the times of my runs and the length of the song it's going to work out quite nicely.

The second track is not the usual epic-style song you would hear in most videos but starts off hard-hitting with a crunchy feel to it. About 3/4 in it switches sounds and loses its sync-ability for tricks but will work very nicely for my credits. My main FS will be at the start of the song with the weaker or less sync-able stuff rolling through the credits at the end of the song.

That's all for now. I'll keep updating when I have more to share.
Secret Defrag Project - Content is Unofficially Complete
Posted on 3.6.10 @ 3:10 PM by PhoenixFilms

After another very long recording session I have finally unofficially finished the content for my first defrag project! I say "unofficially" because there are a few loose ends left. There are a few jumps that I opted to do an easier way but I would much rather complete the harder versions before I begin editing.

The original concepts for this project began about 5 years ago. It's been a long journey between then and now but I've finally had some time to focus on the content. It's coming along smoothly and if I can keep this pace up I don't think it will be too much longer before I am ready to announce that my content is "officially" complete.

I'm not ready to reveal what the content is because I think not knowing will be half of the shock. What I can say is that it is mainly a defrag run video with a bit of mixed freestyle towards the end. What's special about the runs is that I've been focusing on some very old and iconic maps and have come up with some unique ways of doing them that will blow your mind after all of these years :)

Currently I'm working on finishing up the content as well as putting together a clean video config and my own custom weapons/models pak.

On the road again
Posted on 3.5.07 @ 2:53 AM by muckyman

yup i`m back prowling the servers collecting demos for a brand new movie,i finally got some motivation (thx Tania).

I`m thinking of an FFA movie not a pure frag movie, just something fast and furious or loud and lewd :).

shit...i forgot how fast this game is (quake 3) looks like i need some practise again.

Demo TARD Demo!
Posted on 5.27.05 @ 9:07 AM by own-age

2 days in a row I joined my usual pub server.. joined the game mid way into it.. forgot to start demoing and got a really nice frag.. look up and realize I didn't demo it.  2 days in a row is just frustrating.. Since I didn't demo.. i'll go ahead and spew out the shots that I'll probably never hit again:

1. wcp18, enemy flag carrior was about to cap.. I shot a rocket at his feet about a jump away from him capping, poped him up then nailed him with a clean mid air for a mid air holy shit.

2. wcp14, was at the side bouncer at the flag stand playing d.. I heard the enemy near the mega spawn, so I shot a rocket in the path where people usually rocketjump once they touch the flag on the map.. sure a moment after i shot the rocket.. the guy grabbed the flag, rocketjumped and right at the apex of his arch, when he though he had it made out of the base my rocket nabbed him.  Specs went nuts and talked about the shot for like 5 minutes.. none of them demoed either.

Aftermath: Config done! + progress
Posted on 5.13.05 @ 8:29 AM by own-age

Finally, the config is done for aftermath. Some real nice tweeks and whatnot.. One of my concerns was having cg_drawstatus enabled and I believe I'm going to have it off unless the shot calls for it.  Being one who sticks with paterns it kinda sucks to do irregular things, but it will all work out great when the video is near completion.

I'm working on a few post extraction techniques on aftermath to give the footage a new look.. which also should help out on compression.. The process to get the footage like I want it is extremely long and I think I'll hold off on doing it to the footage untill after I've placed and syched the footage to the music so I am not wasting my time on shots that may not make it into the video.  This has taken  about 2 days to discover/test and I'm quiet pleased with the output.

I should be able to do some sort of editing tonight when I get home.. Probably start with the intro a bit.. Still searching for a few songs though.. I have 3 content songs but I would feel better if I could find a 4th song around 4 or so minutes in length for some of the quad/flag runs.

a51 for ctfx season 5 open division champs!
Posted on 3.30.05 @ 10:49 PM by own-age

took the day off to play the championship round for ctfx with otis, ment, fokov, and icarus as coach (for team a51).  CTFX is a quake 3 osp ctf league and they have 2 divisions, open divisions and division 1.  Since our team was so new and whatnot, we got in on the open division and won every match we played.  including the championship round which was tonight.. the other team didn't even get a cap on us.. I played like crap but otis made up for my slacking. ggs a51 and ggs otis.
v9 is getting close to being finished
Posted on 3.29.05 @ 8:26 PM by own-age

I've created a task list for the stuff left to do for the latest version of own-age.com dubbed "v9."  Been beating the hell out of it since I got home.. But just getting the simple stuff out of the way.. I still think I can pull it off before April 16th but we will just have to wait and see
